What does “Nostos” mean?

The word Nostos comes from ancient Greek, meaning “homecoming” or “a return to one’s origins.” It evokes a sense of longing for the past, for one’s homeland, and for the traditions that shape identity. This deep-rooted connection between past and present is at the heart of Nostos Living, a brand inspired by heritage, craftsmanship, and the timeless beauty of returning to what truly matters.

But for me, Nostos is more than just a word—it is my story. It is the story of my ancestor, Hacı Memiş, the visionary behind Alaçatı, and of my family, the Denizci lineage, deeply tied to the sea and the land.

Alaçatı: The Land of My Ancestors

Two centuries ago, my great-great-great-grandfather, Hacı Memiş, saw potential in the windswept, sun-drenched lands of Alaçatı. What was once dry and overlooked became a flourishing town under his leadership. He welcomed farmers, builders, and seafarers—people who would transform the region into a thriving agricultural and trade hub. He built wells, stone houses, and vibrant marketplaces, setting the foundation for a town that would later become famous for its vineyards, olive groves, and Mediterranean charm.

My surname, Denizci, means “seafarer,” a reminder of how my ancestors were not only tied to the land but also to the Aegean Sea. They were sailors, traders, and fishermen—people who lived by the rhythm of the waves, always moving but never forgetting where they came from.

The connection between land and sea, between home and journey, is what defines Nostos Living.
